Hi everyone,
I am looking at getting the Performer grill and had a question about the gas ignition. I was wondering if using the gas ignition gets the coals ready quicker than a chimney starter does.

Thanks.

No. the chimney is the mosr effective way to get the coals going. In fact many have used gas assist with a chimney to save on propane.

That's what I do! About 3-5 minutes with the gas assist and then sit back and relax.

J how is that CL find cooking? Have any luck with the table? I use my gas this same way makes it real nice and clean charcoal start.

i think the propane assist is faster than a chimney with newspaper or paper towel with oil

it's certainly easier, cleaner, and more effective.

i go through about one canister every month, but i grill a lot (and sometimes leave the assist on longer than 5 minutes)

I have had my performer about 3 months now and have used two bottles I have forgotten to turn mine off when I first got it in a timely manner, now I am better at doing so, it works nice though.

5 minutes with the gas assist is all that I have been doing. I haven't run the chimney next to the gas assist,or with it but for my money the gas assist is quicker and cleaner.

When using my chimney, I went away from paper and went to the Weber cubes or another fire starter. A lot less debris that way.

It depends, if you are like me and shut all the vents when you are done cooking. Then I use my weed burner to restart my charcoal. Otherwise if I have to load a new chimney then I use the gas assist, it's a no brainer. Once I got my Performer I was done with paper and oil.

Pile up the charcoal over the burner ...turn on gas assist for 5 minute doing other things while I wait.....end of 5 miutes shut off gas .15 minutes and spead coals and cook.
No chimney for me.One 1lbwill last forever.....if you don't forget to turn it off...lol.

LIke many others, I use the gas assist with a chminey right over it for like 2 minutes. I use my performer A LOT, and that gas bottle has lasted over a year. Light my WSM using the performer too.
