Performer Problem - handle fell off!

Hi

I have a 2000 Performer and while I was cooking some corned beef the handle came off the lid. It looks like the spot welds broke. Has this happened to anybody else? Luckily, I do have a OTG that used the lid from so I could finished cooking.

I am bummed.
 
call weber and see if they will do something. if not just drill some holes and use some nice ss screws to hold it on. not good but not the end of the world either.
 
As I look at and collect these old Webers, this is the one area where I see some weakness - the spot welds, not only on the handles but also in the lower bowls where the grate holders are attached to the bowl.

I agree with George, if Weber is unable to come through with a replacement lid because of the age, then a drill and some SS nuts and bolts will have you up and going in no time.

The same thing happen to my OTS, 2 years old. Called Weber and they sent me a replacement.
