I have a 2008 Performer and I can smell I am getting fuel when I open the valve. But it won't ignite. I am thinking about taking it apart this week. It almost has to be the ignition spark. Is there anyway to clean this. I have never had it apart.

Thanks Brian

Brian,
First check to make sure that the end of the burner tube isn't clogged with ashes, I had this problem once.

Most likely your ignitor is bad or dirty. Its a 10 dollar part. But what has worked several times for me is to take a long pipe cleaner if you have one, push it through the burner tube at the end where it enters into the kettle bowl. Make sure the pipe cleaner is long enough to reach to where the ignitor tip goes into the burner tube (on the outside of the bowl) Push this back and forth thru the burner tube a few times so that the pipe cleaner brushes against ignitor tip. Sometimes you get a buildup at the ignitor tip and it won't spark.

I had the same issue on my 07 Performer a week ago. I thought the ignitor was dead but if you take out the charcoal bin and remove the propane hose from the burner tube look inside and see if the ignitor sparks when you click it. If it does your tube is just dirty. I cleaned mine out with a wire hanger. Lots of junk came out. Now it works like a champ. Also make sure the rubber hose tip isn't clogged up with gunk coming from the regulator. If it is just take a paperclip and clean it out.

Good luck!

Brian,
I bought an older ss performer off of CL last year. The igniter wasn't working so I gave it a shot of penetrating lube to make it easier to remove. I gave the old igniter one more try, it worked and has been working ever since.

Brian,

Your problem is curd in the tube like Jeff and scott said. I too had the same problem last spring, and after I stuck a long piece of wire into the tube to clean the gunk out it worked like a champ.
