First of all hello to everyone.
I'm very new to smoking. I have not read to much about pear wood. I'm from the northeast(Massachusetts). I've read plenty on apple wood which we have plenty of orchards but have a few pear trees in my backyard and was wondering if the smoke is similar to apple.

Thanks

Welcome!

It is similar, albeit a bit milder to me. I like it with fowl (in small amounts) and it is a good mixing wod when you want to soften a stronger wood. A 75-25 mix of pear and pecan, oak, or hickory, e.g., is nice for bacon and fresh ham. 50-50 for butt. (You'll find how you like it best by experimenting.)

Where in Mass?

I had to cut down a small pear tree in the back yard and have been using the wood. Very close to apple as far as I'm concerned. I also sometimes add it to hickory.

Good wood

So the wife comes home and sees the pear trees cut down from the back yard and you have bar-b-que sauce all over your face. I don't think that's gonna go over too well.
