Watching QVC this AM, saw Paula selling an "8" lb bonlesss, skinless turkey breast.

1. Can you buy an 8 lb boneless skinless turkey breast ?

2. If so how do you smoke it ?

Any info appreciated. Thanks

The largest I've seen was a little more than 4 lbs. Her's was that size too, but after she got through adding a ton of butter, as she usually does, it weighed 8 lbs.Honestly, I have no idea if they ever get that large. Sounds unbelievable to me, but then what do I know about turkeys?

they are probably proccesed and smashed together like the ones they put on the meat slicer in the deli. and probably already cooked

Looks like I should have looked at the cooking section.

But it appears the only way one gets the 8 lbs is by smashing them together as well as injecting a ton of butter. Thanks

I was kidding about the butter, because she always adds tons of it to just about everything she cooks. If you've never tried the normal boneless/skinless breasts on the WSM, I recommend them. Try it some time, especially if you are looking for quick sandwiches

Oh my gosh... with shipping it comes to $78 for eight pounds of meat! Can you say $9.75 a pound for processed turkey? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
That's really not that far off from a brand like Boars Head at your local grocery store though. Many stores here have dropped the Boars Head brand as people were not paying all that coin for it, don't blame em. Luncheon meat is just crazy expensive these days,

I can't remember the last time I bought any. I usually just make stuff on the WSM over the weekend for my lunches throughout the week.

I have not tryied the boneless skinless turkey breast on the WSM yet. Will try them.

I have done a few whole turkey breasts with great sucess.

Tomorrow jumpin jims chicken thighs ( second time), family raved about them last time. don't know if I can make the same thing 2 times in a row just as good the second time around ?

Your right about the high cost of lunch meat especially the boars head brand wow.
When I made the whole turkey breast we sliced some for sandwiches, terrific. And when you do that you know kinda what your eating as opposed to buying the lunch meat, with all the additives and all. Thanks

Actually, I DO think that you can find boneless, skinless Turkey breast that big, if you know where to look.

Probably not at all common in most grocery stores / meat markets.

However, a few years ago, my mom oven-roasted a BHT (big, honkin' Tom) that was about 45 lbs live-weight. (over thirty "dressed and drawn") Some friends with a home in the country raised a few yard-birds - It was a "free-range" bird that gorged itself on corn and acorns from the large oak trees on their property. She had to put it in a large pan on the bottom shelf in the oven.

I'm certain that the breast meat from this one would've met the criteria, and definitely not processed!

(One of the best I've ever eaten...)

On a serious note, I too cringe at the price of deli meat at the store. Seriously, what the hell. Never thought of just making it my damn self.
