Out of Round Lid

A few weeks ago in a monumental moment of sheer stupidity I knocked the lid of my smoker off of my deck and got a nice gong sound when it hit the ground. On the rim of course. So now I have an out of round lid. Any of you folks have a trick for getting the lid re shaped to fit correctly. We'll assume that the lid came that way so you don't have to tell on yourself.

Thanks

My advice would be to follow the procedure listed here under "Sections Out Of Round". Measure the diameter at several points to see where you need to make an adjustment. Then, be gentle, and be very patient. Don't use anything other than your bare hands to bend the lid, and make small adjustments, measuring frequently to see your progress. (If I were doing it, I think I'd sit down, put the lid on my lap with the near edge against my stomach, and gently pull on the far edge.) If you're careful, you will probably be able to restore the lid to roundness without causing the porcelain to chip.

I dropped my Performer lid last summer. Weber sent me a new one (love their customer support!).

Just discovered while grilling a tri tip that the new cover is out of round unless I turn it 180 degrees.

Really - how tight does the cover have to be?

I would be more concerned on the WSM than on a kettle. Probably only takes a few educated pushes opposite the "long side" to make it right.

If you get a new cover from Weber you may have to do the same with new cover anyway IMHO.
