Ornamental crab as smoke wood?

I'm talking about a crab apple tree with fruit the size of cranberries, not an honest-to-goodness crab apple tree.

We just sawed off a few branches and hubby says "smell it!" So I did and it smells good. Sweet and fruity...

Any reason we can't use it in our Weber Bullet?

Thanks, all...

Jan.

You have a true Crab Aplle tree. They varry in size but most fruit is the size of a quarter or smaller. I planted 4 Indian Summer crabs a couple of years ago and the fruit is about the size of a dime.

Yes you may use it for smoke wood. It's apple and it's all good.

Do not hesitate to stew a mess o' the ripe crabapples in vinegar with brown sugar and spices and then use the resulting syrup as a base for Q sauces and glazes. Delicious!
