Orchard wood Safe?

We just moved into a new house in Oct. today I realized that I am about 1/2 a mile from an apple orchard. Seems a no brainer to stop by there and ask them for some wood...however the one concern I had (and I am sure my wife will to when I mention it) would be the use of chemicals (I am sure they do) and their release in the smoker.

Anyone have some information for me on this topic?

I'm not dead yet. I know that is not a good answer. Some have raised concerns. I do not know of a definitive answer. Anyone know better?

You can debark it if you want to. Imo it is safe. My father in law has 500 acres of fruit trees and I have been nabbing his dead trees forever for smoking woods! I mean you eat the fruit off of them right! Eating fake ground beef at taco bell is much worse I think!

Where do you think the people who sell wood chunks get their wood from? The same orchard you'd be going to or one just like it.

I have a lot of apple orchards around my house, and I've read some warning about using wood from old trees because people used to use arsenic in the fertilizer. Might be worth looking in to.
