Orange wood

I have a local orange grove that is cutting down all their dead orange trees, I can go there and cut myself all the wood I can handle. Since the trees were dead how long do I need to let it dry once I split into chunks? Has anyone been able to do this from your local growers weather it be peach, apple, etc. never used orange wood before, any feedback? It will take some work but I can get a ton of this stuff.
Thanks for any input people

It should dry for a few months at least. A friend of mine from southern California sent me some orange wood, told me it was great with chicken. I still have some, wasn't crazy about it.

Do you know how long the trees have been dead? They've probably been dead and drying out for at least a season, so it shouldn't take too long. I'd go ahead and cut it into the size you want to use right away. You could always burn a chunk to see how it reacts.

I bought a 40lb sack of Orange logs and that stuff was very hard to cut and split. It was worth it though, I love it with Chicken.

I would get as much as possible. The Bass Pro Shop near me sells it. You will love it for cooking chicken and fish. Good luck.
