I’m just trying to put the ash catcher back in it’s “holster”

I’m finding it to be near impossible and very frustrating, but I’m sure it’s just that I don’t know “the trick”.

How do I get this thing back into its slots??

I’ve been trying to angle it and put the two nubs into those slots (first pic) simultaneously, and then put the handle somehow into its slot (second pic) but getting everything to line up is just not happening. Is this an older style? What am I doing wrong?

put the two in the back first, then move the handle up into the second picture slot and move it a little to the right.

Yours is the older style ash catcher, so it needs to go up, and counter-clockwise. I don't have an older style to show you.

Start with the two back ones, then line up the front and then turn counterclockwise.

You'll master it in no time.

I am totally confused! Seems like the advice is showing how to engage the ash bucket into the aluminum holder, yet none of your posted pictures have the bucket shown. Are you trying to engage the tabs of the bucket holder into the "slots" or gaps on the inside of the kettle leg sockets? It's a bit of a trick, and easier if the kettle bottom is inverted. I gave up on one of my kettles and used worm drive hose clamps.

I used 3 self tapping screws when I redid mine.

I'd like to give credit to the original post on this but it was in the old forum and it's long gone.
I did it on my 06 OTG and today I tuned up my Son Joshua's Perfomer and decided to take pics.

First flip it over and align the tabs into the slots correctly, and add self-tapping screws ( SS hose clamps were suggested in the OP or SS zip-ties ) I used screws.

Then slide in the pan and make a mark in the locked and unlocked position.

I think John is trying to reinstall the bucket, I usually need to start the process two or three times with proper verbage and holding my mouth juuuuust right!
That mount is easier than the hare brained design they use for the 18” kettle! Line up two little nubs and arthritically squeeze the handle so it pops into a tiny slot!

That's how it is on my newer performer. My old ones are easy.

I scored one of the “old style squared off” Black(!) buckets from Dan or Brett, once the dust settled from opening the box, I put it on! I was “housekeeping” the other day, it seemed a little shabby looking so, I gave it a good scrub and three coats of High heat rustoleum, that looks much more elegant now!

New style where you pinch the handle and tilt it down then pull out.

I have two of the “old style”(22”) and one of the “new” (18”)
The old ones are easier on my knuckles!
