I have small amount of rust right by the welds and leg supports on the edges does it matter and if so what are some options to prevent further spread? None of it is cancerous or spreading just right by handle edge for instance...

thanks all

For rust in the same spots on my 14 year old Bar-B-Kettle I got some 100 grit sandpaper and went over it, then went behind that with 220. Just regular 8-1/2 x 11 sheets of sandpaper, torn to smaller pieces.

You can wipe it down with a slightly damp rag (or mineral spirits), then with a dry rag, and hit it with some high temp caliper paint to match your finish. Three or so thin coats and you should be good.

After the "curing" period, then (as George suggests) before your first post-painting cook you could go over the painted area with Pam or some other cooking oil. It'll probably never rust again.
