Old vs New center burner tube on Genesis 1000

I have a Genesis 1000 and I noticed that the old center burner tube has flame holes down its entire length on both sides.

The new replacement tube has flame holes on one side only.

Any idea why Weber changed this?

I imagine the center tube doesn't put out as much heat ..

The new style burner is designed to be "top ported" not "side ported". I have used both types and noticed no difference in performance
