I'm doing brisket for the first time this week, and I'd very much like to procure some oak wood chunks before then.

Any suggestions on where to pick some up?

You can order some from an interenet vendor...just type "wood source" in the search button at the top, or google "smoke wood" and you will get a ton of hits. Shipping tends to kill the order though. If you just need some oak I will ship you some if you email me jeffyr@optonline.net. Priority will probably cost under $5 and you should have it by the weekend. If you want me to send it let me know early today so I can get it out in todays mail.

I've had luck at Evergreen Lawn & Garden in Warren or Clinton Twsp. I never boought oak there, but I do get my Hickory and apple there.

Good Luck

Yes, I usually get wood from Evergreen on 8 Mile. They have quite a selection, including peach and grape wood, but no oak.

I was just trying to avoid having to order it online. I'll probably just end up doing that.

I've never used oak before but was wondering...is it Red Oak or White Oak they use for smoking, or both??

I went to Evergreen today and they did have oak wood, but only chips. I'll probably mix it with some hickory chunks for the brisket.

Bought a 5 lb. flat at Costco. Fat cap is mostly intact.
