Chris's "Brisket - Midnight Cook" says "I used oak wine barrel chunks". Where do you get these? From wineries? I live near a lot of wineries...

They used to be available at Trader Joe's, but I've not seen them there for several years...not that I've been looking that closely, though.

Hopefully someone will post a source.

Good luck,
Chris

That site doesn't seem to have any e-mail link. Funny. And it does always say "chips", not chunks.

I just found where Chris says "These chunks came from Trader Joe's gourmet food market". www.virtualweberbullet.com/woods.html

Don't know how current that is, but I'll ask at a nearby Trader Joe's the next time I'm there.

I have a friend in Napa who drives to certain vineyards that have piles of broken barrels sitting around. He just loads his trunk with staves. You may try to email or call a few vineyards. Perhaps they'll ship out some staves if you're willing to pay for shipping? I'm trying to find a Hudson Valley vineyard with broken barrels, but not having any luck.

If you did not see my other post, there is a winery in almost every state...
