NOW what do I do? I NEED HELP!

So my brand new WSM 22.5 has been ordered. It should be here Wednesday of next week. (Pretty good for free shipping, no?)

It's a Christmas present. That's, like, two months staring at the box.

So what do I do now?

Please explain how I can possibly wait until December 25.

Any ideas? Any bets on when it actually gets opened?

Ummmmm, unless you are a VERY patient man, you are....in a word....screwed. A few suggestions:

1) Break or lose your computer, so that you are not tempted to access this site for two months.

2) Go on a radical 8-week vegetarian diet.

3) Screw it, just open the box and promise to make mounds of meaty holiday treats for your friends and family.

NOBODY should have to face that kind of temptation. It's just wrong

. Good luck, my friend.

Silas, very simple! change the shipping address to the closest forum member then come get it X-Mas day! It'll be assembled & seasoned

Holy cow, John, you have something here. My brother also has one coming.

So if I get mine shipped to his house, and his to mine, I'm not opening my present...I'm getting HIS ready to use!

Wonder if that will fly...

Silas, I got an idea. Open the box immediately, VERY CAREFULLY. Keep the box in pristine condition, with all insulation and packing material. Next and very important, FIRE UP THAT SMOKER, use it like there is no tommorrow. Eat plenty of meat and have a grand old time. Now comes the good part, 2 days before Christmas, after you have smoked your turkey and ham and ribs and .... clean your smoker and repack it carefully in the pristine box that you saved. Wrap with a BIG bow and on Christmas morning or Christmas eve as is your habit, open your new smoker and jump for joy at the sight of your new toy. It will be our little secret.

Merry Christmas early

Happy Smokin'

Mark

I think I would have to fall back on that old wise saying...."It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission"!! Or you could always use the excuse that you have read/heard about the possibility of the front door not fitting exectly right, and that there is NO WAY to be sure unless you assemble it.
Myself, I would fall back on option #1!!

Silas, tell your wife weber has a 30 day money back guarantee if not satisfied with the product. The 30 days start the day it was ordered.

Tell her to think outside the box.
Offer to smoke the turkey.

Do like the Pope did back in 1582 - simply cut days out of the calendar.

By dictum of Pope BBQ, this saturday is Dec 25th!

Silas just use the wsm till Dec 23 put wsm back in box, on xmas day when u open the box just tell ur wife u ordered a seasoned wsm, i think she will buy it.

You could post a poll on the "Polls" topic:

Explain your situation, and ask:

Does this qualify as Cruel and Unusual Punishment? (Y/N)

I'm sure that the overwhelming response will be "Yes" - which makes it unconstitutional!
(or, at least, provides ammo in your defense against Wifey)

Silas-
Who the heck ordered it in the first place?
That's just cold!!!
Buying a gift you really look forward to gettting and then gettting it 2 months early....man that's a tough one. It's not like you can stick it in a closet so the "kids" can't find it.
Good luck. Will power, my friend, wll power.

Easy, Don't think of at it as an early Christmas gift. Think of it as being ten months late.

It's in Kentucky. Or at least it was a few hours ago, and it's probably on a truck now. Heading this way.

Why am I watching it? I still don't have a plausible explanation.

Silas do not ever get amazon prime , even the big things get shipped 2 day express! You still have a few days to do the " Right Thing"

No, this wasn't through Amazon, although I've ordered a lot through them before.

It was through a place called Grills Direct, and it was the cheapest - including tax(none) and shipping(none) that I could find. It included a $20 off coupon that I found online. So I'm happy.

It's in Lenexa, KS, by the way.

Apparently, free shipping gets here in 5 days. It's on the truck, on its way here! I'm pretty excited...

In all seriousness, however, I am going to pull it out to check it over, and then pack it up until Christmas. It's my present, and it's important to my wife - so I can be patient!

Now it's time for the research and planning to begin...Christmas morning it's going to get some meat on it. Seriously. A large amount. I have patience, but only when necessary, and after that, all bets are off!

Thanks for playing into my tongue-in-cheek, fellas!

I agree you should open it and check it - it would be a shame to have a banged up lid or something and not being able to cook right away.

Do be aware that the box is enormous. It might also make sense to assemble it and stick it in the garage or something... she can always put a bow on it for Christmas.

I keep hearing that voice in my head saying "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission".

I don't know what to tell ya - when I got my WSM I drove home from work friday night to bring it in the house, turned around and went to a friends house for some friday night drinkin. Came home a few hours later "less than sober" and assembled the cooker. The next morning, hangover and all, I fired her up. So a 2 month wait??? - can't help u with that one.
