Not mine SS Performer $60

Reminds me of my 1998 SSI that was the reason I got into this hobby and found this forum, to which I'm forever thankful. Moved it out here in 2018 and enjoyed for several years, but turned it for a nice profit eventually. Was a very heavy frame for sure, not easy to move around and the ignition needed some work but a great grill. Blue top convinced me to get matching blue top Gen A. This is a great price!

I would have to agree that the size and heavy construction that are part of the appeal of the old SS Performers can also raise challenges for storage and moving around. Then there is that 5lb tank. Expensive to replace.

I have a non-working SSP (black). I know this will offend some, but I am toying with getting the new Pit Boss Phoenix pellet kettle and seeing if I couldn't drop the bowl and pellet feeder into my SSP. Put a Weber lid on it and I would have the pellet kettle that Weber should already be selling! I have enough regular kettles already. Not sure my idea will work and what kind of frame support would be required, but the good thing is that I would be starting with a fully set up pellet kettle with up-to-date features (other than WiFi which is not a big deal to me). It also would not drag on the ground like the Spider 22 attachment that they aren't even currently selling.

I keep watching for used Bullseye Deluxe grills. They usually sell in 24 hours, so I have not been in position to run and grab until tax season is over.

Scheels apparently sold out their last leftover "Black Edition" Bullseye Deluxe kettles. That temptation is at least gone!

I looked at the Phoenix in person again last time I was at the "big" Walmart. I am more impressed with it each time I examine it. I would be happy to buy Tom's if he decides it doesn't get a long-term spot in the "Land of Grills." It would be fun just to meet him in person and shoot the breeze a while. I kind of think he may keep it, though.

What do you think about my idea of putting the Phoenix kettle and pellet apparatus into an SS Performer frame?

I like it! Would be a unique, different project and bring out the best in both worlds.

The new PB seems to hit it right in a lot of areas and the price puts it over the top I think. All reviews I've seen have been good so far. Only drawback of that old frame is its weight, meaning it wouldn't be very mobile-one reason I parted with mine. I suppose if moving around was important you used pneumatic tires! LOL. A newer generation frame would take care of that-then again, I'm not sure how heavy the PB is. But whereas you already have the frame you're one step ahead.

I never thought I would enjoy pellets so much, after starting out with a Traeger that I didn't enjoy. But the Bullseye suits my cooking needs perfectly, hot and fast, and the Phoenix seems to follow suit.
