That's usually a good thing. "Blue" or "Invisible" smoke is what you want. Not the "white" stuff.

Use your nose. Does it smell like smoke? If it does, you're golden. If not, we need more information about what you are doing.

Yeah, blue smoke is a good thing! If the thermometer is right and you can feel the heat coming from the top vent, then life is good! The invisible smoke just means that your fuel is burning efficiently.
 
About three quarters of the way through the cook you'll be able to finally smell the meat. Mmmm... What's cookin' anyhow?
