no food saver

I don't have a foodsaver but someone on one of these forums mentioned that it was possible to use a freezer bag, force as much of the air out of it and keep something like pulled pork fresh and ready to reheat for a reasonable amount of time (not, of course like vacuum packed).

The question I have is: can I boil these packets of meat to reheat them and what's the drill? How long do they need to heat? Is the water still boiling or do you turn down the heat? Should the packet be cracked open a bit?

Or would microwaving be better?

Any help would be appreciated...

It all depends upon the thickness of the package. I use a food saver, and I squish the packages thin as it vacuum seals. That way, they reheat a little quicker. I boil them for about 10-15 minutes with the heat on high the whole time. I don't have a good way to figure out if they are done.

I prefer boiling to microwave, but I certinaly microwave plenty of pork. I think it tends to dry it out a little, but solve that with more tasty sauce..
