new wsm ?

I assembled my new 18.5 wsm last night and noticed the lid fits inside the body of smoker. This is opposite of my 22.5 otg where the lid fits over the bottom half of kettle. Is this correct? Thanks for the help.

This is normal, and it is designed this way to keep all the tar and smoke gunk that condenses on the lid within the body of the smoker, as opposed to running out all over the sides. Even though you can use a OTG to smoke meat, the one-touch series, and the rest of the Weber products really, are designed for higher heat grilling instead of for long-duration smoking so the condensation/tar issue isn't really a big deal.

This is correct.
In a kettle, you do not build up gunk and grime that'll roll down the inside of the lid and drip out of the kettle.
In a WSM you DO have built up gunk and grime that WOULD roll down the inside of the lid and out of the WSM IF the lid was situated the same as a kettle.
So, with the lid INSIDE the body of your new WSM, all that G&G stays INSIDE the WSM.

This makes sense I just wasnt sure if I had assembled correctly. I have smoked/indirect grilled on my OTG for 6 years so I am looking forward to using the WSM. Thanks for the help guys.
