New Weber Smoque being released


 
Just a casual observation on the Smokefire gen 2.
I just pulled the cover off and expected to find some evidence of mice but the round legs make this pretty much mice proof.
I can't say that on L shaped legs.
 
I guess they cant grip round legs with no edge compared to flat legs with a edge.
Like I said just a casual observance or I'm just lucky.
 
Yeah, one of the positives for the Searwood and now this new Smoque is that they are priced very competitively. This new entry by Traeger does seem to show that they are willing to compete in the same arena with something a lot better than some of their less impressive models you see at some retailers. So, the the pressure is on. At least this is good ole competition, and the consumer gets another interesting option.

I did have to chuckle a little about the digital display screen. This baby boomer just couldn't help but be reminded of the old Lost in Space TV show from back when I was a kid.

And then another newer entry in to this lower to mid priced field and quite honestly this looks very intriguing. They have 2 models the one in this video the larger and slightly more full featured. But both of them look quite interesting

Brisk It pricing and the accompanying teaching app really could disrupt the market, if it is made of quality materials and lasts.
 
Has anybody been able to compare the two? Seen one review, which suggests little difference in smoke flavour between the two.

My local Ace which recently moved into a way bigger location now has an extensive display of Webers :coolkettle: !

They have both a Smoque and a Searwood. The obvious differences in appearance that I quickly saw is that the Smoque has a less unconventional drip arrangement. The Searwood was trying to keep as much of the "open" concept of the failed SmokeFire whereas the Smoque is purely intended to be a smoker and not at all for high heat grilling. If you ask Tom Horsman, the Searwood should stick to that as well. Not sure I agree with Tom's reviews, but in my own experimentation I would have to say that if you want to really have high heat searing, stick with a gas grill and add a smoker tube or chips or use charcoal. That's not to say that a pellet grill can't be made to do some basic grilling. I have been trying that with the Pit Boss Pellet Kettle I bought to replace my Spider Huntsman since my wife says she is OK with pellet grilling but not at all with charcoal.

It works, and it is a change of pace from using my gas grill. Nonetheless, I would have gotten better results and faster with my gas grill.
 
Ace Hardware in Bossier City, Louisiana had a couple of Smoques assembled and marked down when I recently stopped in.

Smoque 22 marked down from $799 to $677.

Smoque 34 marked down from $999 to $887.

My thought is that if I’m laying out several hundred, just throw a few more bills on the pile and get the Searwood. Ace didn't have any Searwoods in stock, but it looks like my local Lowe’s has the smaller one for $899 ($100 off) until Oct. 1. Hmmmm.
 
That's definitely a great price. Only question I have is whether Weber will honor the warranty it if you buy it from a liquidator like that. I passed on a steal for the Pit Boss Phoenix because I wanted that 5-year warranty. It may not come into play, but at least I have a fallback if things go south.

I am waiting for Tom Horsman to sell off his heavily modded Searwood the next time he does a thinning of his herd "In the Land of Grills":D!

Yeah I wonder that as well. Really ticks me off companies don't want to honor a warranty. Look as long as I didn't break into your warehouse and steal it, HONOR THE WARRANTY!!!!!!!!!!! Seems if there is a way to worm out of standing up for your product they will find a way. Recently when I bought my Fellow Aiden it really honked me off I had to pass on so many fantastic deals because of how these companies are allowed to get away with these loopholes. So, if I wanted on I had to pony up the nearly $400 to have the warranty.
On the grill though it may not be so bad as none of the parts are overly hard to order or overly expensive
