New Television

Fully mounted on the wall, into the center of the studs. Had to mount at 24” width as mounting at 12” OC was not permitted per call with support.

Got the AppleTV, Ethernet switch and power block installed in the wall. Next is to upgrade the OTA DVR box and install that. Then the TV will be done.

Then comes the LED fireplace build, two lower cabinets, acoustic slat wall and some shelves. Then the wall will be done.

Well after a week of owning this, we finally got a sunny day. All my fears of an OLED in a bright room are alleviated. It is actually better than the LCD it replaced and the brightness is not all the way up. Unless you live in a greenhouse, an OLED should be bright enough for anyone.

55”LG to replace a 6year old Samsung which died of screen lighting failure
Reused the existing Sanus VLF220 recessed arm mount and added a Bose TV Speaker which cost almost as much as the TV.
Had help from cleaning lady to bring the old one down, and from our condo handy man to lift the new one into place.

I went back and forth on LG and Samsung. It was pretty much a coin flip and they use the same display panels. Did not really consider $ony because of price difference.

IDK that LG and Samsung use same panels. I'd heard a long time ago Sony was buying Samsung panels. But, even there I am not sure. For me, too much really sour luck with LG products and electronics to want to buy them again

Well, it is a half truth. I was referring to my TV. LG and Samsung signed a contract in 2023 for LG to supply 77 and 83" panels tor Samsung. There are other manufacturers too. Initially, LG was the only supplier of OLED panels. In Samsung, depending on screen size, some panels are QD-OLED and some are WOLED. That leads me to think possibly different manufacturers in some sizes.

I didn't know that.
I did not either until I started researching TVs. The more I read, the cloudier it got. In the end, it really came down to a coin toss. I have had good luck with Samsung electronics and LG Appliances, so I just went with my gut. The 5 year warranty thru Costco helps ease my fears.

With the crappy little speakers they put in TVs now, it is almost a necessity. I must say that the sound in the new TV is better than the old, but I still use a surround system for most viewing.
