Hi everyone!

We've been working on updating the Smokey Joe for the past couple of years, and the entire Weber team is proud to announce that it's finally launch time.

We have combined the best features of the Smokey Joe and Smokey Joe Premium into one new model.

Essentially, we've put the Tuck-N-Carry® lid lock onto the regular Smokey Joe. The Smokey Joe Premium, and all it's current color variants, is going to be phased out. So, if you're a fan of the Smokey Joe Premium now's the time to get one.
The new Smokey Joe is available in black (of course), and also Deep Ocean Blue and Burnt Orange.

The black version of the new Smokey Joe is in stock: https://www.weber.com/US/en/portable-grills/smokey-joe/smokey-joe-14/1501699.html

Burnt Orange and Deep Ocean Blue aren't in stock yet, but will be soon.

Wow. Good idea. I’ve owned a number of Smokey Joe’s over the years but stopped using them because the coals go out with the lid on. Did this quirk get addressed?

Since the early 2000's, there's only been two 14" Smokey Joe designs. The Smokey Joe Silver (10020) and the Smokey Joe Gold (40020). In 2015 they were renamed the Smokey Joe (10020) and Smokey Joe Premium (40020). 10020 had an adjustable damper on the bottom of the bowl, along with a small ash pan connected to the legs. 40020 had dampers on the side of the bowl, and a wire lid lock/lid holder. 40020 had some limitations due to the placement of the dampers relative to the location of the coals/fuel source, and as you alluded to, using the grill with the lid closed could impact it's performance.

The new Smokey Joe model (1501695) has the bottom damper design with the wire lid lock/holder as well, which is the first time we've combined those two features on the 14" Smokey Joe model.

… and that change is a great combo. Awesome orange color!

Now you can make a Premium SJ version with a standard lid thermometer, standard cool touch on lid damper, phenolic handle on bowl damper, removable ash catcher (like a removable bowl within an attached bowl), hinged SS grate, and offer additional interesting colors. Maybe accessories like Mini WSM section (a la tamale pot mod), mini rotisserie ring, etc...

Like this pic… (I wish mine had the wire lock/lid holder).
