Well, I just took delivery of my ELX6 and it looks good. I saw this gap in the hopper chute and was wondering if it would be a problem for me?

I’m not 100% sure what you’re talking about. But I’m thinking it’s your pellet hopper dump. Shoot. So check the underside of your hopper. There should be a slide sheet metal piece that you can pull to empty the pellets out of your hopper. Maybe it’s not positioned correctly

Sorry for the lousy pic. I zoomed in on it. If that's the pellet dump, and I think you are correct, should it be flush with the chute?

Are we talking the big hole in the middle or the gap along the edge in upper left?

Either way, nothing to worry about. Enjoy!

It just looks like it’s slid under the tap instead of over. Should just be able to slide open the dump and close it again maybe putting light downward pressure on the part you grab so the other end goes up. That’s if I remember correctly, my SmokeFire has been gone over two years now.

It's the gap along the edge. Given previous pellet problems with the design I was wondering if it would cause a pellet jam as the pellets were depleted and didn't have as much weight on them pushing them down. When I run these pellets down I'll remove the slide door and readjust. For the life of me I didn't know what that handle was. I'm really glad I didn't pull on it to see what happened :).

Burn in went well. Even though it was in the 80s it was fairly windy and gusty. The temp on my kettle in these conditions would have been all over the place and I suspect my Genesis would have had a hard time too. The SF did a rock solid 450 for about 40 minutes with no issues. It makes me think I should be in good shape for the winter too.

I updated the software and that was fine. The SF did lose connection to the cloud / app because I forgot to restart it. I got that back after shutdown and I could restart the controller. The only strange thing is the software app tells me I'm up to date and then tells me the update failed. The software and firmware match the latest versions so I'm going to write that off to an app glitch.

Now we have some strong weather moving in so I have a spatchcocked chicken and some burgers on deck for tomorrow.

The only thing that really surprised me was I called Weber and someone basically took a message for the SF "specialist" team who might get back to me in a couple of days by email. I know this kind of thing is happening all over, but I well remember when I could call Weber and speak to an extremely knowledgable person within 10 minutes who would tell me what I needed to do or have sent me the parts I needed before I got off the phone.

Thanks everyone for the assistance!

It looks like Weber slightly changed the pellet dump when they redesigned the hopper. The plate that moves back and forth is not flush on the Gen1 and Gen2. They are very similar however and not a problem for pellet flow. When a problem void develops it's over the auger chute so - not to worry. It's fine. I hope this helps. Have fun.
