Last year as a belated Mother's Day gift, my husband got me an 18.5" WSM. This year, I had asked for an OTG since I've been using the WSM as a make-shift grill. We've been grilling a lot lately and I thought it would be nice to have a dedicated charcoal grill. Especially since I do all the grilling.

Well, I found out yesterday that my new grill is being delivered this afternoon but it's a Performer! WOO HOO! I'm going out to pick up some steaks and a propane cylinder. I'm hoping it comes early enough so I can get the thing put together in time for dinner. If not, we'll just have to have the steaks tomorrow. And definitely grilling all weekend.

When I found out that I was getting a new grill, I did a little jiggy. When I found out I was getting the Performer, I played the song from the Weber's commercial and boogied! Had to celebrate correctly.

You're gonna love that Performer! If it's new you need the small camping propane tanks for the starter.

It's really nice to have some workspace attached to the grill, and space to keep other things handy while you grill. Enjoy!

congrats and I hope you prefected that dance!

Thanks so much everyone! I've been re-reading a lot of the posts in BBQ, grilling and charcoal grill sections all day so hopefully I've absorbed some of y'all's wisdom and advices. I know I've said it before but I love this forum and you guys are the best!

It was delivered about an hour ago. Just got done putting it together. The steaks are coming out in a few as soon as I start the chimney.

I can't stop smiling!

Fortunately, only the husband and the dogs saw me boogie. But they're used to seeing me make a fool of myself. Gotta go get dinner ready now!

The first grilling on the new Performer didn't disappoint! What that means is that I didn't screw it up, haha!

I was able to get the temp as high as 550 on it and got a decent sear on the steaks. I used the Weber lighter cubes for the first time and they are sooooo much nicer than newspaper. Fast and clean. Love them. I did pick up a propane cylinder (thanks, ashish) and will use that tomorrow.

These were pretty thick so I did some indirect to finish off the steaks to a perfect (for us) medium rare (more rare than medium).

Dinner was delicious! Pork chops tomorrow!

mmmmmmmm... steeeaaaak. Wait... mmmmmm... pork chops. What time should we come over?

Once you screw in the propane tank for the starter, no more messing newspaper or lighter cubes. just put the chimney over the burner for 2-3mins and your chimney of charcoal will light right up.

Terrific looking steaks Carol!

Some folks don't get 'down here' on the forum, so please think about posting your next cook in the Photo Gallery, wouldn't want anyone to miss it!

Come on over, ashish. Dinner is at 6:30. I got the starter cubes for the WSM but thought I'd try them out for the first grill. Looking forward to using the burner.

Thanks Bob. I'll post pictures of future cooks in the photo gallery.

Thanks Alberto and Wolgast. I've grilled twice since those first steaks and the Performer has been awesome.

I got the Weber gourment system with the cast iron grate a few days ago and grilled my first steaks on those last night. All I can say is OMG! The sear on those steaks were fantastic. The hubby said they were just like eating at a good steakhouse, but I think dry aging them for 4 days is the other factor.

I didn't take any pictures (sorry) since we were starving and the battery was low on the camera. But I will take pictures the next time I use the Gourmet system.

Don't know if you know this, but CAB is the food industry shortcut for Certified Angus Beef. When I'd call in my order, I'd say "2 CAB strips," meaning two NY strips of Angus beef. I'd say your initials are apt, given the perfect grilling of your steaks!
