New House, New Grill

Hi everyone,

My wife and I just bought our first home a few days ago. Exciting stuff! I'm excited to buy a new grill though and have decided to go the gas route. As we've got a lot of other expenses going, I'm wanting to keep the price at $500 tops.

Looks like LP will have to be the fuel source - quote for a NG line to patio was ~$600 on its own. Ooph.

It's just the two of us at home but I'd like to have space for family/friends as well. Any grill recommendations? I've been looking at Weber Spirit 310 and at Broil King Baron 440, but am open to suggestions!

Welcome Kevin! Congratz on the new home! Scan Craigslist for slightly used Webers. There is always someone moving and needing to get rid of one. I picked up a slightly used S-310 last week for $150 with a nearly full propane tank. Those sort of deals pop up all the time on CL. No way would I buy new knowing this...

I remember my first night in my own home. What a feeling when you've been renting for years huh? 14 years later I'm in the same home and have paid it off. Now that is a wonderful feeling!

Good luck to you!

Chris

I agree with Enrico. Charcoal will give you the best flavor by far over a gas unit. Also more versatile. If you want real estate, look at the Weber 26. Plenty of room and works great. While I also have a gasser, best food is always from the kettle or the smoker. Wife uses the gasser and for good food I use the kettle and smoker. Good luck on your decision. You can get them on Amazon for $300.00

Also, welcome to the forum. It is a great place to get questions answered and everyone here is very friendly.

Welcome to the forum, Kevin.
Complimenti for the new house, but leave the gas to someone else!

I agree charcoal gives the best flavors, but due to fire restrictions in the fire season here we also have gassers as charcoal isn't allowed. Also I have to say for a quick grill gas is very convenient.
Actually we have nine grills and smokers, so we're well equipped to do about anything.
Oh and welcome to the forum you will find it a fun place with lots of help available and a whole bunch of knowledge here.

Welcome to the forum Kevin. My suggestion would also be with a charcoal grill. With that said you live in Michigan so there is a need to go gas when it's raining or snowing. I'd go with a moderately priced Weber with a cover and purchase a Weber charcoal grill. Just my two cents worth.

Another option for a gasser is once you get a charcoal weber kettle, check Craigslist for an older Genesis that needs to be rehabbed. You will have two great cookers and know that you rehabbed a really good gasser.
