ive made hams instead of turkey before for thanksgiving. turkey isnt a special holiday food as i cook them year round usually at least once a month or so. usually turkey isnt on our holiday menu unless the wife and i are having guests or she just wants a turkey for such. turkeys i cook are always smoked. oven roasting is just wrong. im not a fan of eating rubber birds.
when i cook them i tend to remove the breast bone and cook em layed out flat ribs down skin up.
Mom's doing the turkey for T-day,so I don't have a choice. We are having a smoked bird for Christmas. Yes! But it seems like all the grocery stores in the area have rib roasts on sale, so I'm doing a rib roast this weekend. Thanks for the t-day gift card boss!
It's sure not like I have a choice either! My daughter is 19 and a complete traditionalist. Nothing but a turkey would be remotely acceptable. That's OK, they are wonderful and it's a great day for our small family.
when living in hawaii, many of our thanksgiving were a lot of differant foods except turkey. i like turkey and don't cook it enough so now i look forwards to it. especially turkey soup !
