Like a lot a folks my rubs have some cyane in them . But I need to add a little heat to a rub Iam working on but I want the heat to also add flavor ! I also don't want a 5 alarm fire just a llittle backend heat . Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advace

I don't know if you can get this where you live, but I go to the west side market in Cleveland and I buy Jalapeno powder. It's milder that cayenne but adds a better flavor. We usually add about 3 times the amount of cayenne to get a similar heat.

Aji amarillo, New Mexico hot or extra hot are my go-tos for heat with flavor, especially the former. I often add Aleppo to further boost fruitiness.

Sweet Feedom for aji amarillos and/or NM hot, in whole or powdered forms.

Da Gift Basket for NM from mild to extra hot in whole or powdered forms.

Penzeys for Aleppo.

Yeah, ditch the paprika and cayenne for chilies with flavor. (And don't bother with the dry mustard either.)

Never bothered with dry mustard ! But I have tried just about every other spice known to man
