My very first WSM meal!

Hi all! I'm new around here--just introduced myself in the "introduce yourself" section earlier today!

I LOVE barbecue! Up until now I've only done it kind of make-shift on my big old CharBroil grill. I also tried a Brinkman electric bullet-type smoker. Yuck! Anywho, I finally broke down and bought a WSM. I just put it together this past week and barbecued my first meal in it yesterday! Mmmm mmm! GREAT ribs!

I bought spareribs up at Sams, and I never bother trimming them into St. Louis style. I just cut them so they'll fit on the grill. Here's a pic of them cut up with the rub on them:

Here's my WSM. My husband runs a garage door company, and he made this little enclosure out of extra garage door panels that were lying about. The individual sections have handles. There are hinges inside, and the whole thing dismantles for storage/travel. Pretty neat, huh?

After I had the ribs on a couple of hours, I put on some brussel sprouts and potatoes. The sprouts have melted butter, lime juice, and maple syrup on them. The potatoes are drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with salt, pepper, and snipped fresh rosemary.

And here they are smoked!

Here's the ribs after I took them off the WSM:

Then I mopped them with a vinegar sauce and sprinkled on more rub!

Here's my plate (I refilled it later):

Not much left for lunch--ha ha!

Sorry I'm such a lousy photographer, but this is about barbecue and not my lack of picture-taking skills!

Welcome, I think your picture taking and posting ability are fine, pictures look good.
Food looks good, but I have to tell ya I love the enclosure for the WSM, neat idea also. Happy smoking !!! John

Thank you all! And by the way, that enclosure was built from new garage door panels, which are expensive, but we got them for free because they were left-overs from various jobs. However, my husband says that he gladly gives away used ones when people ask for them because it costs him $88 a ton to dispose of old doors when he puts new ones in. And a ton of doors can build up in no time flat. So if any of you want to build an enclosure like this, as long as you don't mind some scratches and dents, you could probably do it for free as well. Go to a local garage door company and tell them what you're doing. As long as you're not installing garage doors, they probably won't care if you take a few old panels off their hands. The nice thing is that many garage door panels are insulated as well!

Everything looks great Mel! Sweet enclosure too. MMMmmmm, smoked Brussels .....

Your plate looks like you are on a diet

Welcome Mel!
You did a great job with your pictures, and an even better job with your 1st WSM cook.
You are a pro already!
Enjoy!

Mel, Looks like a great first meal off the WSM.

I love brussel sprouts too. I just made some with my St Pattys day meal on the WSM a couple of weeks ago.
