My new Skyline - A blackout edition

Interesting look you have their Jon. I like it! Appears you used a left trim handle from a spirit. I have use those with a square thermoset worktable with success, but that is the 1st time a have seen it used with slats. Looks good with the black durawood. I wonder how that method looks with real wood and grey durawood, probably just as good.
Well done, Jon! Thumbs up all the way around!

WOW - Spectacular job (as always)!

"My hood, like most Skyline hoods, had a lot of white speckles from the dreaded “Weber fade.” I figured this was a perfect opportunity to try the “Pimp Your Grill” metal restorer again. While it did pretty well on my horribly faded Flat Top lid, it was amazing what it did for this much better piece:"

By any chance do you have a before and after shot of the hood. Would love to know how much of a difference "pimp your grill" makes and how long it will last.
I have already kicked myself for not taking before pictures or a half and half. This hood did not have the gray foggy look that some get. Rather, it had white speckles, especially on top. After applying the “Pimp Your Grill” stuff, and following the directions allowing it to sit for a half hour, they all disappeared completely.

Obviously time will tell about how long this lasts, but I am very encouraged. Much better initial result than from Pam!

Absolutely amazing and stunning Jon! Motivated me to spiff up my A bluetop which I may have to part with:cry:
Would you keep the grates? If you aren't going to keep them. Let me clean them up and make them look brand new again so you can sell them separately. I'm sure someone here would buy them.

Also if you want my help with any cleanup or restoration I'd be happy to help for free.

I appreciate that a lot Josh! Haven't thought it through yet actually, but that might be the best avenue. Have about $150 invested in those grates and bars that nobody else would appreciate-could probably pick up something to flip the rest quick as A's don't seem to have a following any more. Hoping I'm close to selling the griddle-downsizing can be painful.

With whatever route you decide I'm happy to volunteer of my services to help you if you want. This next trip to AZ is going to be all about the restoration of my Junior but after that I'm happy to help. Probably February.

Those RCPlanebuyer grates are sought after for sure. I'd have a hard time parting with a grill with Dave's grates.

Yes Jon,
I have seen that one. It has the Silver C trim piece which is usually use for curved worktables. The reason I pointed out the one on your Skyline is because it is the square one. ie....

Samuel, Good eye on that! To be honest I didn't even realize the distinction. I was just trying to make use of what was in my parts bin. On my first Skyline, I was a more liberal spender and even bought one of the end pieces new from Weber. I had to do a lot of work to free one of these from the rusted metal extensions they were still attached to.

I guess it worked out well, though, because the squarer piece does seem to look less like a Frankengrill add-on then the rounded one I used on my first Skyline.
