I did a little inventory on my charcoal supply and it’s exactly the same as it was April first, twelve bags.
With us being in stage two fire restrictions and no monsoons to ease the drought we are not allowed to burn charcoal.
Also the last charcoal burners I have are my performer and my mini that I built at least ten years ago and haven’t used it in a very long time, The Jumbo Joe is gone, the 18.5 WSM is gone the platypus is gone.
By the time the restrictions are lifted hopefully next month some time, the cold weather will be creeping in and the performer in a couple of months will go into winter hibernation.
Another thing I noticed in my little charcoal shed is four large totes of smoke wood. With the WSM gone and the Camp Chef using pellets no need to hang on to those. I’ll save some for the performer so that when I do HH ribs I can add a little smoke. But the rest is being dumped.
Will I miss my charcoal cooks, most definitely.
But also I’m enjoying the ease of the Camp Chef and the simplicity of my gas grills. Easy to use and maintain, as I get older I like that.
