My First Weber!

Hey Everyone!

I have been looking for a used Weber grill that I can afford for months, and this past weekend I finally got one. Best of all, it was free from the curb!

I've read a little about these grills, and I believe this is a 2005 Genesis B. I can't tell if the grates are stainless or not, but they are good. It's all there, but she has some issues. I haven't taken it apart or tried to clean it yet.. but:

1) The bottom is complete rusted out. I've ordered the replacement part for $50
2) The middle burner doesn't fire up, but the front and back burners work fine.
3) 1 small castor wheel is broken (just the little lever on it)

Other than that, just a few small surface rust spots, and there is rust on the handles of the stainless doors that I'm hoping will come off. I haven't taken detailed pics, but here is what it looks like:

I have a lot of reading to do, but does anyone have recommendations for restoring this grill? Do tutorials exist here? Thanks, and I'm excited to see what this baby can do!

You're going to love that grill Dan. Those side tables come in real handy. It will be even more valuable to you after you do the rehab.

Welcome to the forum Dan. There are many threads on rehabbing the Genesis grill. Easiest to post pics and ask questions. Many of us will be happy to help.

Thank you! I will start a new thread for my restoration.

Question - I see a lot of people talking about "redheads" here and I get that it's the red grill. Are these more rare?

Yes, they are more rare, but other than aesthetics, there is no difference in how they perform. The red color is just more striking. Your green is a very striking color also. I got lucky and found a redhead on CL and restored it. It cooks like any other Genesis, very well. You will really enjoy that grill when you are done with it and get many years of pleasure and memories from it. Good luck on the rehab.

Thank you! I will start a new thread for my restoration.

Hi Dan, welcome aboard, can't wait to see a full restoration thread with pics of the before / after result!

Great score on the Genesis! we don't find these for free on the curb over here in the UK for sure! :(

I'm sure that your nice Green Machine is QUICKLY gonna' replace that black thing that's sitting next to it.
I'm a firm believer that a Used Weber is better than about 80% of other brand-new gassers.
They do HOT and fast and low and slow and everything between

You're going to love it!
Hey it's even in Packers green... Oops! :p
