My blow torch blows, how do you do it?

OK so I went out bought myself a small propane torch to start lighting my MM cooks. Worked great first couple of cooks, however now whenever I use it it will only stay lit for a few seconds at a time (after I place flame on fuel) and I've got to relight, relight, relight. Plenty of fuel in the "tank." I think this is due to the fact that I'm turning it upside down to light the coals and it's going out. Any ideas?

Larry, the propane will not burn when it's turned upside down. You can get a tank of Mapp gas that will burn upside down and it burns hotter.

Or you can get one of these and continue to use the propane and it's easier to use. This is what I use and love it and do not have a problem.

Larry, Yes. Propane is a liquid in the tank. When you turn it upside down the liquid stops the flow of gass out of the nozzle.
 
larry, i'm having the same problem. i'm thinking of getting a weed burner so i can do away with the chimney for good. i figure a tank of propane used for nothing other than lighting my kettles and a few coals to get my pitminder going will last a long time before needing to be refilled.

Nope, that would be a great function though. I just keep a lighter handy and it lights right up!

That's the one I bought and I couldn't be happier. I had no need to spend $50-70 at northern tool, tractor supply or somewhere else. Plus Chris got credit from Amazon.

One thing if anyone gets that model- crank it up pretty high when lighting- helps the ignitor to light on first try. I usually lower it down to about as low as it will go for actual use. If it's windy I sometimes have to crank a little higher to keep it lit, as the wind can blow it out when set low how I like it. Also make sure you have a good spot to set it away from kids, pets, etc. as the last foot or so gets pretty hot and takes a few minutes to cool down.[/QUOTE][/QUOTE]
 
I was looking at the benzo linked up above. I have 2 20# tanks, though, so I will need an adapter like the one here. Just in case anyone was having similar questions.

Yes, I was! Thanks Pat...I just got my burner in the mail today. I've got two full LP tanks since I just got my gasser converted to NG.
