Minneapolis - Where to find Lump

Hi Patrick - I have a lot of co-workers in the Minneapolis/Edina area and am amazed at how many BBQ fanatics there are up there!

I've used the Green Bag Royal Oak lump and I've used Cowboy - the Green Bag Royal Oak is pretty darn good stuff, especially for the price we were paying when we were in Michigan this summer.

Pat

Patrick,

While I have never gone to this place, I have heard they can supply all your charcoal and wood needs. It is called Northwest Charcoal and Chemical. Their phone number is (612) 879-8044. Their address is 2900 17th Ave. S #1, Minneapolis, MN 55407. I don't know what brands they carry though. Ignore the Chemical part of their name by the way. I read that it would be advised to call first as they don't necessarily keep normal hours.

I pick my lump charcoal up at Menards as well since it is cheap, convenient and seems to work pretty well.

Sorry, I'm not in MN area, so I can't pinpoint a location that carries it. But the Menards around me do carry it in stock. So, I would think that they should be able to order some for you, because it surely is in their supply/distribution system. Talk to a store manager about ordering some for.

If they can't find it on their ordering system, let me know, and I will get the SKU/PLU# (zebra stripe) for you.

The Menards in Richfield (494 and Nicollet) carries it. I was there yesterday and they had a large display right next to the checkout.

Paul

P.S. I will try not to hold your living in Edina against you. ;-)

Hey Paul -

Erik from Blaine here. Every Menards I've been to in the cities carries the green bag Royal Oak. It's sometimes a bit difficult to find - it's not always right by the rest of the grilling stuff.

I agree, though, aside from RO and Cowboy (which I won't touch), it's difficult to find lump in the cities. I've been meaning to try out the Northwest Charcoal place in S. Minneapolis, but I haven't made it there yet.

Patrick, Lowe's and Von Hansons (not good for much else tho!) also carry lump. I usually get it from Lowe's in Shakopee.

Also, not sure what meat market you go to but Hackenmuellers in Robbinsdale is a MUST STOP.

Oh and I will not hold Edina against you...my wife grew up there and my in laws still live there!

Patrick,

A couple other options for you....I went to Ace Hardware today and they had Royal Oak, Cowboy, and another lump (cannot recall the name).

Also, Jerry's Hardware in Edina will have plenty, cannot believe I forgot about it initially!

Patrick,

Although not lump, when I travel to MPLS I load up on the Rancher charcoal at Trader Joes. All natural, burns clean, long and with little ash. Price is good as well. They may have it packaged under their label, but look for the all natural charcoal in the tan bag for about $7.99 a bag.

Go Vikings!

Todd
