mini rant

so yes, I admit I can get a tad hung up on things that most would not even think about. but its my nuts and bolts ocd thing, ok ?
so why can't I find the correct screws for the handles ? seems like weber makes or uses their own. why ? drives me nuts.

There are 6 different threads out there for screws, bolts, etc. Included are SAE and metric but I know in my airplanes hobby, a lot of parts are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) which are a real pain in the posterior. They source them cuz they're cheaper but the driver slot is just a little different so that you can't use a philips driver as they're just a little bit off.

Best bet is to get a bolt (with a known thread) that's close to what you need and tap the hole to match. It'll (slightly) ruin the existing thread in the hole but it should allow the known bolt to fit.

They be a coarse thread screw/bolt made for plastic/composite materials, maybe 6 threads per inch? Hard to find in SS at the ole neighborhood hardware, Granger or Fastenall might have them.
Like Len said find something similar and maybe add some loctite or gorilla glue to the threads.

Loctite won't work if the bolts are exposed to smoker and above temps. Loosens right up.
Maybe, I dunno but the blue or red is made for engines and you need a propane torch to "break the seal"
That's much hotter than smoker or grilling temps when applied to a handle.:)

well, it just may be a screw made for plastic. for sure its not metric. but its just odd that weber felt they needed some obscure screw for the plastic handles.

Well, one guy used blue on his engine muffler bolts and it eventtually rattled it off. It could have been due to the hole/bolt not being scrupulously (sp) cleaned of oil combined with the vibration. It may work with the WSM though as I don't think he's going to take it flying any time soon ;) .

I'm so out of practice on RC planes it's not even funny!

well, I got some flat round head wood screws that fit except I will have to grind the sides of the head
just a tad so they can go into the hole in the handle. still makes no sense. not sure were the Loctite idea came from.

put the screw in your drill (or a drill press) and press a metal file against the head. You'll get a beautifully round and small head.
