Memory lane....anyone remember this one?

So, I couldn't really remember when I bought my first WSM, so I was digging through my old photo albums, and found this contraption that I made (before I had a WSM.) My first bullet shaped smoker! (I actually cooked on it at a BBQ comp in Antioch, CA (where is broke one of the three legs and collapsed!)

It's a kettle with two rotisserie rings stacked on top (latched to the kettle, and created a channel with some strapping). I think I had three levels for grates (the original kettle, and a set of supports for two more......This was all while our money was being spent on a house remodel and we were living with my in-laws.

Fun for me to look at! :)

Very innovative Rich! Did they give you a mulligan when your smoker fell over? Had to smile when you mentioned photo albums. What a novel idea. All I have is a small box of SD Cards.

Don't give me too much credit, Cliff, they are digital albums, and I'm pretty sure that picture was snapped with my first digital camera.

No mulligan with the smoker collapse, but we managed to save the meat, and had a WSM and second kettle to move it to... :) If memory serves, I think we got a 2nd in pork shoulder that day (ribs were on the franken-weber when it collapsed.)

Great! Sorry the ribs couldn't "bounce" back.

My first smoker was a ECB which gave me a lot of excuses to drink outside and cuss.
Second was a Brinkman Smoke & Pit horizontal which besides all the mods was still a PITA to use in the winter.
I had an old Weber daisy wheel kettle long before that but my Son's destroyed it playin basketball ( or animal ball) the way they played.
I could do a decent job smoking on that.
Hard to tell from the pic, but is that a daisy wheel also?

Yep, that was an old daisy wheel with the frisbee-style ash catcher. Unfortunately, it was the weld that gave way on the kettle, so it was a loss (old and pretty battle scarred, so it wasn't worth saving.) You think that the 18" cake pan full of sand had something to do with the weld buckling? :)

Yea. I loved that thing. So much easier to dial in temps compared to the one touch.
I read they reintroduced them to the European market, would love to see them here.
