Meat prices

This has probably been covered before, but I wanted to get an idea what people pay for their meat. I have a few places nearby, varying in quality and honestly I'm not sure whats a decent price. if you can post what region/city you're in, the type of shop you go to (costco vs mom and pop) and the cut of meat, I'd appreciate it.

Eastside of Atlanta

Local butcher
Spare ribs, $1.99/LB, 30# case, great quality
Pork Butt, $1.99/LB, 9-10# each, great quality $1.50/lb if I buy a case of 4.

Local Farmer's Market
Chicken thighs, $1.69/LB, very good chicken.

My butcher does not carry thighs (Says his clients don't want them, ???), but if I were to order a 40# case he'd givem them to me at $0.99/LB. I really don't need a 100 chicken thighs in my freezer. My wife would kill me because I would be on the grill or smoker every night.

I am finally going to attempt a brisket again. Been looking at Walmart for the select (Going High Heat this time) and they have been around $2/LB.

I think in most cases, the better quality you start out with, the better end result you are going to have. At the same time, it's about taking cheap meat and making it taste great. Just have to find the balance of the two.

I usually get butts and loin back ribs from Fry's (Kroger). Butts are $1.99/lb but often go on sale for as low as $1.09/lb and are pretty goot. I like their ribs, buy them when on sale for $1.99/lb.

Bought some loin backs at Costco the other day for $3.29/lb. Great quality and the membranes were already removed.

I like the spares they have at Basha's, an Arizona grocery chain. $.99-1.19/lb when they are on sale for untrimmed.

Tri-tip is $4-5/lb depending on where you go. I've seen it at about half of the grocery chains, plus Costco.

I've only bought briskets at Walmart because most places around here don't carry packers. They have the Excel brand briskets. They are $1.99/lb at Walmart and any problems I've had are more related to my attempts at cooking them than the quality of the meat.....the only other place I've seen whole briskets is at Albertson's, where Select was $3.99/lb. They had a very thick fat cap, and I couldn't bring myself to spend as much on one extra fatty select brisket as two less fatty ones would cost at Walmart.

Just paid $4.99 CAB flat yesterday. Seems like meat prices are going up weekly/monthly. Crazy. I remember $3.99 not too long ago.
