I have a new Maverick ET-73 and as I was reading through the directions, I noticed it said to not run the food or smoke probe under the lid. Is this in fact a don’t or have many of you done so without any issues?
 
I think that's more protection for the manufacturer since so many people Bobby Flay their lids closed.

As Bill has stated, it is basically Maverick covering their butts. I have 4 Mavericks and two of them are close to 5 years old and I put them between the lid on my WSM's, Performer, Primo XL and Primo Jr., with no ill effects. The sad thing is on the WSM's I have the Guru eyelets but never use them for the Maverick probes!
