Maverick ET-73 won't transmit

Well, my streak of <STRIKE>good</STRIKE> bad luck with the ET-73 continues. With new batteries in both transmitter and receiver, I can't get transmitter to send temps. Worked for awhile last night, then KAPUT. Even pressed the transmit button (several times) with the tip of a pin and nothing. (Not a distance issue because I can't get it to work when they're 3' apart.)

Boy, it's tough getting up the nerve to spend $60 on an ET-732 when this ET-73 has never worked well!

I gave up on my 73 ages ago as it really only worked properly for a couple cooks. 732 is night and day compared to the 73, works as it should and range is much better.

Mine still works just fine, and since the more expensive one's probes won't fit through my grommets I'll just leave well enough alone. I admit the range isn't that great, though.

Mine wouldn't work for about 6 months and came back to life again. Keep trying to reinsert the batteries and turning it on and off again.

Monty,

I ordered the Maverick ET 732 about 2 months ago in anticipation of the WSM 18.5 which arrived a few days later. Let me say that my occupation is HVAC Building Controls. We have to have accurate and expensive temperature measuring equipment. I was anxious to verify the calibration of both temp sensors included with the 732. I found both to be +/- 1* F @ 225* F. That tells me the internal electronics and probes are a good match.

As far as use, the 732 is simple to operate. The 300' wireless range works as advertised.

My only problem was the housing of both the transmitter and receiver. This rig is not built for rough handling. The plastic cases look very brittle and I do not think they would pass a drop test. The SS probe braid looks very durable though. Also, the transmitter should not be placed close to the smoker heat source IMHO.

So, I'm treating the rig with "Kid Gloves" and it has performed perfectly.

Here's a slight Mod I made to keep the transmitter away from the WSM heat.

Good luck with your decision. Just my .02
