I have a chance to buy some, im assuming it's just what it says, maple lump...?

How is it...?

Thanks.

There are some folks that weigh in and say that any woods burned to lump, lack much of the original pre-burnt flavors. I use the Maple lump and tend to agree, to a point. After a long cook, say like a pork butt, there is some subtlety to the flavor, almost sweet.
That being said in regard to flavor, the Maple lump is the best lump that I have ever used. It burns consistent, not too hot, and suits well for WSM work or doing steaks on the kettle.
My .02 is buy as much as the truck will hold, or the wallet will support. I sincerely doubt you will be disappointed.
I have come back to add a bit, here. I am only aware of one brand, that is available for the Maple chunk charwood. The brand I am using is called Nature's Own. It comes in bags packed in 17 1/2lb. lots.
Is this the brand that you have available to you?

I believe it is, actually my better half is in the meat business /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif , & her co. also sells lump, woods etc. I know there 17.5# bags, i'll ask her the brand when she comes home. What is retail on a bag, if u dont mind my asking?

Char-Wood
For some reason, the manufacturer is being very selective in regards to their retail outlets. This stuff is not available in many places in the northeast, except for the one mentioned, that I'm aware of.
One thing you'll notice immediately when seeing this lump is the packaging. The bag is tightly filled, allowing for little if any movement, of the lump during shipment. This is a big plus, since the fines or powders that can develop from loosely packaged brands have an excess of powder that I find useless, and costly.
For some further information go directly to the Nature's Own website:
