Magnolia Wood?

I've never heard of anyone smoking with Magnolia wood, but my boss is about to cut down a Magnolia tree in his backyard and I was wondering if the wood would be any good to smoke with. I know the blossoms have a very pleasant scent, but I don't know if it would venture into fruitwood flavor territory or not. Any opinions/experiences?

At this site under the operating tips and mods section i looked at the all about smoke woods section and it wasn't mentioned as appropriate woods to use or wood to avoid. i even checked some other sites dedicated to smoking and none had magnolia listed. hopefully someone else here can help you more than i can.

I don't know what a Magnolia is, but some rules of thumb are:

If it bears an edible fruit or nut it usually makes a good smoke wood.

You don't want a sappy soft wood like pine or an oily wood like a cedar.

If it doesn't fit either of those two categories, I would tend to leave it alone.
