Magic Dust

Has anyone tried the recipe for Magic Dust from Mike Mills book Peace Love and Barbecue? If so what is your opinion? I found it to maybe have too much cayenne pepper and chili powder. I might have mixed it wrong. I did have a couple of cocktails in me by that time.

I've tried it a few times, and I think it's okay if you're going to also use something like Mike's Apple City BBQ Sauce. I find the chili powder to be too much otherwise, and the cayene way too much. I've fond dropping the chili powder to a tablespoon, dropping the cumin to a couple of tablesopons, and dropping the cayene to a tablespoon works pretty good. That said, I'm becoming more fond of rubs with less paprika and more brown sugar. Dr. BBQ's Big Time Rub (from his Big-Time BB Cookbook) pretty good, but I drop the heat a little. In part I do that so I can apply it more thickly. It ends up being pretty close to Texas BBQ rub, which I and many others like a lot. It's worth trying: http://www.texasbbqrub.com/
