Lump -vs-Briquettes

Oooh, just checked out the nakedwhiz site and I see that Wegman's (upstate NY-based grocery that just expanded near me---carrying Zwiegle's white hots among other cool things) and the nakedwhiz site rated Wegman's brand---which is made by Royal Oak---a 4.8! So I'm hopeful I can scare some up soon.

When I am done smoking or using my kettle I shut down all the vents and smother the coals. Any thing that is left and of any decent size I will reuse on my next cook.
But the pieces that are too small and fall through the grate, as well as any pieces from the bag that are too small go into a steel trash can in my garage. Instead of wasting these pieces I use them in my woodstove which I use to heat the garage in the winter. This may sound stupid but I figure "waste not want not" and by the end of the summer I have a fair amount of coals in the can.

I tried Maple Leaf lump after reading the reviews on the naked whiz and was very impressed. There was very little small debris and the smell and flavour was fantastic. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
You lucky Canadian's. I used to be able to get Maple Leaf Lump matter o fact that's all i used in my WSM the first year and a half. I can no longer get it here so enjoy it. IIRC it has a nice blend of maple, birch, and beech wood in it.

It's a long story but when your bored sometime do a search on kingsmoke and you'll see what i'm talking about. It's been about a year and i'm still waiting for my stuff. I have a great source for Humphrey's Lump and have 3 22 lb bags of Wicked Good coming in the mail. Hump Lump is some really good Lump.

I've had my wsm for over a year and have not yet used briquettes in it. I started off with royal oak lump, then switched to big green egg lump as I found a source only two miles from home. I love the fact that it produces very little ash. I do seem to go through it pretty fast. For an overnight smoke I start off full (minions method), and usually have to add more near the end.

I will try kingsford sometime soon to see what the difference is.
