Lump vs Briquettes

On a similar note, I tried Kingsford Competition for the first time, and wasn't all too impressed. It burned faaaar too fast.

Lump burns longer than K??? I've always read the opposite. I hope that is true!

All depends on the lump. Lump is a pretty generic term. They aren't all the same. Those made from rather dense woods will burn for quite some time.

Well havent even read the whole tread but as kevin stated "All depends on the lump. Lump is a pretty generic term."

Lump needs air to burn hot and fast just like briq. Butt since the Lump generally burns hotter you can feed it with less air to keep a temp(lets say 250).

And with the air flow set to minimum i can hold the same temp(with lump) with almost the same
burn time as briq. In a grill the lump with uncontrolled air flow will burn HOT and be gone in no time. But choke it and it will give you the temp your after and the long burn you want.

Back to Kevin though "They aren't all the same. Those made from rather dense woods will burn for quite some time."
