Fill the ring and let-er-rip. It isn't that much different than charcoal. If you're doing well controling your temps with charcoal you should be fine. Just watch it a little closer until it's settled in.
When using the MM, a lot of us use briquettes (started in a chimney) to get the lump going.
Thanks Jerry, as fate would have it, I don't have enough lump ( I don't think ) to finish the job, so I put the lump in the bottom of the ring, and covered that with Kingsford.
I use Hump Lump now. When I used K-ford, I would just put the lit coals in the middle and let them burn outwards. That didn't work well for me and the lump. I sprinkle the lit coals around the top of the lump, and that works much better for me. I still use K-ford to start the lump. Watch the temps on the way up, can run away fast!
