Yesterday got a new One Touch Gold and tried a beer can chicken with grilled onion from memory on here.
The onion I saw here a couple a weeks ago was a whole onion with crisscross cuts. I believe bacon bits were put on top and then cheese when it was almost done. Yesterday I tried one wrapped in foil over indirect heat and then finished it with direct heat. I got some charred pieces (kind of like the burnt pieces in a potato stick can), not bad, but not what I was looking for. Taste was good, but it fell apart. The taste was fine. I had added some Franks Hot sauce with the bacon prior to cooking
Do you wrap the onion in foil? Cook over indirect or direct? Estimated time?
Thanks for any help you folks can give.
BTW, I'm used to doing the beer can chicken on my gas grill or my WSM 18" and never thought for a moment the rig would not fit under the OTG until I was ready to grill. I had to remove the stainless beer can holder and it went fine from there.
