Looking for advice on a big cook

We're having a party next weekend and I'll need to do 6 to 8 Pork butts. Couple questions...

I've got the 22.5 version, so 6 shouldn't be a problem. How about 8?

Next, how long should I figure for cooking time? I was thinking 14 hours or so...

How about wood amounts? I know what I like for just a single butt, do I need to increase the amount of wood because of the incresed volume of meat?

What do experts think?

Thanks a bunch, guys!

Welcome to the board.

We'd need more info. Time is dependent on size of the roasts and the cooktemp.

Whether you can fit 8 will depend on the size of each as well.

I usually only slightly raise wood amounts when doing a lot more meat.

Depending on sizes it could take 16-20 hrs without foiling. I just did a 9 lb it took 18 hrs at 250-275 range. That meteorite was awesome tho.

8 or 9 lbs are about as big as they get around here. i would allow at least 2 hrs per pound for the average size of the butts and then throw in a little extra time because you are cooking 8. I agree that 16 - 20 hrs is what you should expect. Allow for 20 hrs and as they get up to temp pull them off foil them and let them rest in a cooler full of towels. Hopefully you can be pulling some while the rest finish up.

If there's other food (sides, etc.), six 7- or 8-pounders would be plenty.

You can certainly do more, or do larger, if you prefer.
