Location to Purchase Wagyu Brisket

I am starting to enter some small local competitions. Does anyone know where I can purchase wagyu brisket in Northern NJ?

They are importing a very small amount of Kobe beef now BTW, so it is on the market but most likely 99% of it is going to high end steakhouses.

So there is something other than American "Wagyu," which is nothing more really than the same breed of cows that they raise in Japan. They may have a bit more marbling that other American breed, but the ranchers don't provide the cows with the same level of stringent diet and extreme pampering. Personally, I think that paying hundreds of dollars for one cut is ridiculous, but if it helps in winning a comp, even if it is a knockoff, then I guess it would be worth it up to a certain price point.

I was visiting a relative near Cranford NJ and we found some at a King's supermarket. They had decent marbling, but no fat cap or point, and were maybe an inch in thickness.

I've tried a couple of "wagyu" briskets and have come to the conclusion that they aren't really worth the price. There is so much vagueness in what "wagyu" means and not being able to see before buying is a major drag.

Snake River was always considered the best, but they blew up in recent years and I think they've struggled to keep up with demand
 
I've considered wagyu and when attending a recent class on competition BBQ we used a Snake River Farms brisket. IMHO it wasn't any better than what I've gotten at Sam's or Costco. The marbling was decent but if you look through the selections at a place like Sam's or Costco you'll find a decently marbled brisket.

If you're just starting out, work on your technique first. If you're consistently producing brisket your happy with then it's time to move to a higher quality product to edge out the competition.
