Lid Doesn't Fit Anymore?

I recently was cleaning my WSM out by starting a high heat fire to clear out some mold in the inside. I burned a lot of paper and some logs of wood. Got the grill real hot. Now my lid won't fit correctly... Has this happened to anyone else?

if you need to clean mold and such use bleach/water solution then rinse. let it dry and then run a ring of charcoal one chimney lit and one chimney unlit with vents wide open.

as for the lid is it out of round after the higher heat?? how much clearence around the edges?? pics would really help.

Make sure the inner lid and the top of center section are perfectly clean I have had BBq Goo buildup and make the lid a difficult fit. So make sure that where the center section and lid meet up, its perfectly clean from any obstructions. That would be my first plan of attack.

Sounds like too me you got it so hot that you might have warped the metal. Check the lid and the top of the mid section where the lid sets on to the mid section for an out of round condtion. If I'm reading it as the lid wont fit into the mid section after the burn off? And yes pics would be very helpful and eliminate speculation.

I actually did warp the metal. I had a spare lid, and put it on the WSM and it fits fine. This may be dumb, but when I did my hot burn, I started a mini fire on the top grate to burn some papers. Shouldn't a grill be able to withstand high heat even when owners do dumb things like I did????

Oh the reason I had a spare lid is because the paint chipped off the lid during the first year. Weber sent me a new lid no questions asked... That's why I ALWAYS but Weber!

The top grate and lid aren't tempered sufficiently to withstand the extra high heat of open flames therefore a hot burn on the top grate. No way. Also you've literally altered the temper of the lid at least.

I sometimes tweek my lid/kettle here and there for a better fit. They do go slightly out of round from time to time.
