Lang vs. Klose

All,

I just had a very lengthy and fun discussion with David Klose after I called his company. I'd been leaning towards a Lang smoker but had (again) been pointed in the direction of Klose. I don't mind paying more for quality and I've read and heard Klose are the epitome of quality for the smoking world.

Can anyone on the board give me experiences they've had with either builder...and hopefully recommendations? Build quality and temperature control are my primary worries.

Thanks all.

Brian.

I have used a Lang model 84
I thought it was a great unit.
it takes more attention than my WSM though.
It held temps just fine but had to add fuel about every hour..
Very well built, I liked the warmer section too.

Sorry I cant compare I have never even seen the Klose.

I have used a Lang 60 and liked it. A friend of mine has one and I have helped him at the Frisco Barbecue challenge the last 3 years. It is very well built and can handle a lot of meat. It holds temps pretty well but you do have to feed it a lot more than you do a wsm. But seeing as how it is a lot bigger than the wsm I expect that. I don't have any experience with the Klose. I have heard they are very nice rigs and pretty pricey.

I have seen many of the cookers out there and the best is just anyones opinion. I like many but it matters what you plan on doing with it. Before you buy anything, look around. That is a huge investment. Do you want easy, or do you like to tend a fire?

Has anyone checked out Peoria Custom Cookers. I dont think anyone has better quailty for the money. I know there is a new line of cookers comming out that will blow your mind at a very reasonable price.

I've seen the same experiences others have with the Lang. Very good cooker, lots of room, holds temps, but no sleep on overnighters. You might want to look at the Backwoods or the Spicewine cookers. They are high quality and work more like the WSM in terms of long burns.

So, it seems that I've been lucky enough to find a SpiceWine from the builder....picking it up tomorrow and I can't wait to give it a shot. Thanks for the leads, friends. :-)

I live in Houston, so I have a few big pit makers to check out. We'll be moving eventually, so I'm hoping to buy a pit by then and have the moving company truck the thing for me.

I plan on making a trip to Pitts and Spitts and Klose just to see what they have to offer.

I've read some positive reports on the Stumps Smokers. Has anyone tried these? They're gravity fed charcoal burners and have lots of room.

I've never used one, but they are pretty pricey, too.

Best.

I have a Klose grill Chef and love it. When I first got it I called and talk to Dave and Dana and stayed on the phone with me until I got it going my way. The one thing I can say they have service after the sale. The pit is very very well made. Never seen anything with better quility.
