Keurig

I bought one of these for the wife for mom's day, Costco hand them on sale. Makes a good cup of coffee but given a choice, I prefer brewed pot of coffee

My wife bought one and she loves it and the varieties of coffee available, me a prefer a brewed pot but I don't drink as much coffee as I used to so, the Keurig works for me, especially since Aldis has a good breakfest blend @ $4.99 for 12 cups while the wife prefers Starbucks etc for a higher price but @ Costco or Sams Club it is not to pricey so she says

I want to get one for those times I want a cup in the evening or late afternoon and don't want to brew a whole pot.

The cost per cup with these is nowhere even close to a good value, and it is just not as good to me as brewed coffee.

I can get the good coffee (Peets, Starbucks, etc) for about 50 cents a cup. But you also have a "blank" cup that you can put bulk coffee in. It's hard to say what the per cup cost would be with that, but it's pretty cheap.

I do like brewed coffee, but I have noticed that I drink less coffee with Keurig, probably because there's no waste where there would be if there's coffee still in the pot

We have had one for a pretty long time now, a couple of years...we first bought it with the intentions of using the single serving cup that comes with it so you can put your own coffee in it...well, every time we used the little cup it would over flow and leak coffee every where out of the machine and not hit the mug...so, we resorted to buying the high price little K cups...after getting aggravated with the price of those little cups, I looked online to see what could be done...well, the solution was to put a couple of tight fitting o-rings around the needle in the lid that pierces the k cups...those o-rings seal against the top of the single serving cup and seal it up tight...no more leaks...

I can say now that we've figured that out, making Folgers coffee in it is awesome and cheap

It is a pricey machine, the K-cups are pricey and the cups are not recyclable.

I make 16-20 oz most days just for myself. I have an ancient Mr Coffee 10 cup brewer for gatherings. For daily use, I bought an 8 cup Chemex with glass handle. It uses paper filters and it works best with a thin spout kettle like the Hario so you can control the pour. It is 100% manual, not as quick and easy as a Keurig, not as fast as making full pots like the Mr Coffee but if you have some time, it can make a pretty good mug of coffee.

I am not much of a coffee drinker but my parents have one and i have used it a few times. I like the consistency of each cup. As far as a brewed pot tasting better, I would disagree there unless you are using a french press, that makes the best cup of coffee in my opinion.

The cost is somewhat higher than your standard coffee maker but at the same time it depends on your usage as well. If you drink the entire pot every time and don't waste any then yeah it is way higher but if you only drink the whole pot because you brewed the whole pot then i would bet the cost isn't as bad as you think. It is still cheaper than picking up a coffee on the way to work though.

They are convenient. But there is a steep price for that convenience in both quality and expense. A k-cup is designed to only produce 4 or 6 ounces of coffee (I don't recall which). So your mug of coffee will likely need to be filled short, or use 2 k-cups (or produce a weak, watered down brew).

And that's the reason I hadn't bought one until now. The one I bought has a "basket" (for lack of better description) that you can use your own coffee. I like Peet's Major Dickerson. I fill the basket not to the top, probably 3/4's full. I run the maker twice (making two cups) and it's perfect coffee. I buy my Peet's at Winco, it's $8 for 12 oz's. When I was brewing, I would have to buy coffee every other week. I've had this maker a month now, and I'm still on the bag of coffee. So in all seriousness, it's actually cheaper than brewing. Believe me, I was surprised at this

Nice. I like that Major Dickerson blend. I'm just finishing up my last bag of their Anniversary Blend - also very good.

My family has had these for some time....seems like they hit the East Coast first.

They have reported that some models are not satisfactory...temp too low, breakdowns, etc.
So do your research before buying.

Also my BIL is into doing K-cup refills....you can buy virgin cups and caps, then refill with your coffee.

I've had one for a couple years now. When I got it,I bought the basket that you put your own coffee in. Worked great until it disappeared. The one I got to replace it is crap. I just haven't got around to getting a new one.
And I buy the k cups at Sam's. They have a box of 80 for less than $40. So that's under $.50 a cup. Plus the local grocery usually have boxes of 12 on sale for 6 or 7 dollars, sometimes less.

I doubt I'll ever get a k but I cant talk too much trash on them because I'll drink my neighbors (ive bot her a few boxes) whenever I like. They're nic3 and all but I prefer drip, espresso, french press, and even my moka pot..... my cheap, pump espresso machine makes m9re sense to me..,.. I'm stuck in a hotel room tonight. I dont normally watch tv but there was a commercial that caught my interest: http://www.nespresso.com/us/en/pages/vertuo-machine

That is a nice maker, while $300 is big bux, it's actually not bad considering what other machines cost doing the same

I've had one for about 3-4 yrs now and love it! We buy most of our coffee at Sams, and that really helps bring the cost down. I've also bought the insert that allows you to make your own cups from regular grounds. (But I must say I find it to be pretty messy) the Keurig just makes sense for me because I'm the only coffee drinker in the house. Simple and easy, one and done.

My neighbor just made me an espresso from his last weekend. I was really impressed with it.

A bit more of a pain to use, but an electric percolator makes way better coffee that the K-cups.
